10 Day Senegal Explorer
Value Private Guided Tour
Perched on the western shores of Africa, Senegal is a vibrant destination full of history and natural beauty that await discovery. Explore the cultural riches and environmental gems of this small West African nation as you make your way from the bustling capital of Dakar to Lake Retba, Djoudj National Bird Park, and the Fatick Region. Finish off your adventure relaxing on the perfect sands of Senegal’s tropical Atlantic coast.
Your journey begins in the hectic and colorful capital city, Dakar. Stroll through its lively markets and let yourself be transported into the dazzling universe of sights, sounds, and aromas of this fascinating part of Africa. Keep an eye out for artisans selling beautiful handicrafts and traditional healers with their medicinal herbs and concoctions. Visit Dakar’s cultural center, the picturesque district of Medina, and wander its characterful streets. Make your way to the Island of Gorée, a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized for its former role as West Africa’s largest slave-trading post. Tour the old House of Slaves and learn about the island’s grim past as you visit the former auction block and the fort.
Continue your adventure as you leave the busy capital behind and head north towards Saint Louis. The first stop takes you to the sun-drenched sandbanks of Lake Retba, famous for its mesmerizing pink waters. Observe the local salt harvesters work tirelessly in the hot African sun as they use their multicolored tackle to gather their daily yield. Go on towards Thies and visit its Art Tapestries Manufactory to learn about the industry that gained the city its fame. At the end of the day, arrive in the historic town of Saint Louis.
Next morning, head to Djoudj National Bird Park considered to be one of the most important bird sanctuaries on Earth. Take in the abundance of wildlife and watch as the park comes to life each time its feathered inhabitants take off and perform captivating mid-air stunts.
Your escapade continues when you leave Saint Louis and head south towards the Fatick Region. On your way, rising out of the desert is the dusty Mauride holy city of Touba, home to one of the largest mosques on the continent. Stop here to learn about this unique place and the faith that drives it from the spiritual guides of the Mauride community. Arrive at your hotel in the gorgeous Fatick Region and settle in for a couple of relaxing days in this exotic part of Senegal. Take advantage of a selection of activities to top off your perfect African experience.
The last stop of the tour is the tranquil beach town of Saly. Here, unwind on the soft, golden sands as you listen to the sounds of the crashing waves of the Atlantic and ponder over your West-African adventures.

What really matters to us
We aim to develop long term relationships – with our clients, our partners and, especially, with the communities we visit regularly. As such, our business is built on giving back. We are dedicated to preserving the land, oceans and cultures that compel us to travel.
We believe that both the customized, private-guided tours that we design and the giving partnerships we undertake should be inspiring and impactful. Our charitable initiatives are rooted in exploration, education and environmental awareness.
Encouraging exploration
A yearning for adventure and new discoveries around the globe is at the heart of all that we do. Kensington is an official travel partner of The Explorers Club, a prestigious professional society supporting research and education in the physical, natural and biological sciences.
We also support a group of intrepid storytellers from around the globe. Part of our Explorers In Residence program, these writers, photographers and filmmakers are committed to furthering our understanding of this planet and its people.
Fostering education
We believe offering access to education is one of the most powerful ways we can make a global impact. Kensington Cares is an initiative designed to support education in developing countries, including Kenya, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Our efforts have helped to fund the opening of two schools in the Masai Mara: Oloosinon Primary School and Kensington Hall.
Funding environmental initiatives
We’re focused on supporting research and data collection efforts that will affect change, especially when it comes to conservation. As a founding partner of Nekton, Kensington has made an important commitment to the research and conservation of the deep ocean, our planet's last great frontier.
In accordance with 30x30, Nekton collects data and samples to set a baseline of information for the previously unexplored deep-sea waters of the Indian Ocean.
